Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning in Sunnyslope, CA | Ashwood Chimney Sweep
We provide independent DuraFlex chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair across Sunnyslope, and we also offer our Chimney Sweep in Sunnyslope for all flue types. The single biggest difference in our DuraFlex work here comes down to this: Sunnyslope’s mid-century ranch homes were built with open, uncapped flues, so we spend as much time digging out mud dauber nests and hardened creosote as we do cleaning DuraFlex liners themselves. If your DuraFlex-equipped fireplace has been sitting idle through another hot Inland Empire summer, call (833) 805-3229 for a free estimate. We clean, inspect, and repair the whole flue, not just the easy parts.
Why Sunnyslope Residents Choose Us for DuraFlex Service
We’ve been sweeping and repairing DuraFlex chimney systems in Sunnyslope long enough to know how these liners behave after years of our specific climate. Sunnyslope’s hot, dry summers bake the clay and brick around DuraFlex components, then the occasional December cold snap sends everyone to light a fire the same week. A liner that sat fine all year suddenly has to handle real heat, and that’s when problems surface. Norm Castillo, our owner, grew up off Sierra Avenue in Fontana and has worked the Inland Empire’s chimney and venting systems for close to two decades. He knows what a Sunnyslope fireplace should look like after a decade of light use and when a DuraFlex liner actually needs more than a cleaning. Our DuraFlex sales & service experience means we stock the parts these jobs typically need, so we’re not making two trips to diagnose and fix.
We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not authorized or endorsed by the manufacturer. That means we tell you what your liner actually needs. Sometimes a good sweep is enough. Sometimes a crown repair fixes it. We’ll show you what we’re seeing before we recommend anything, and we’ll never push a replacement a cleaning can solve.
Styles & brands we work with

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Solve in Sunnyslope
- Mud dauber blockages at the liner top. Most Sunnyslope chimneys lack modern caps, and the older tracts near the Santa Ana River bluffs are prone to this. Mud daubers build nests inside the exposed top of the flue, and when the first cold snap hits, that blockage turns into smoke backing into the living room. We remove the nest, check the liner, and usually recommend a proper cap before we leave.
- Liner seam separation from hardened creosote. Sunnyslope chimneys sit idle for eight or nine months a year. Creosote from even a handful of winter fires hardens and bonds inside flex liners. When you light a fire after months of disuse, the abrupt heat expansion can pull at seam welds. Our creosote removal service targets these seams so your DuraFlex SW or Pro liner can expand and contract the way it was designed to.
- Cap and crown cracking from UV exposure. Sunnyslope gets intense summer sun, and DuraFlex caps and chimney crowns take the brunt of it. Micro-cracks form, winter rain gets in, and by spring you’ve got water staining and deteriorating mortar. We replace cracked DuraFlex caps and repair crowns before the damage works its way down the flue.
- Pest entry through uncapped flues. Birds, squirrels, and mice all find their way into an open Sunnyslope chimney. You’ll hear scratching in the wall, or worse, smell something that died. We clear nests, inspect for liner damage, and install a DuraFlex cap that keeps it from happening again.
- Damper rust and firebox warping from sudden high heat. That first fire of winter is often a big one. For chimneys with old dampers and components that haven’t moved in months, the combination of rust and sudden heat can leave a damper stuck or warped. We find this often during a Level 2 inspection, and we fix it in the same visit.
DuraFlex Service in Sunnyslope: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s what makes Sunnyslope different from neighboring cities, and why it matters for your DuraFlex system specifically. Most of Sunnyslope’s housing stock went up between the 1950s and 1970s, during the post-WWII citrus-boom era, when builders put in real masonry fireplaces with clay tile liners and called it done. Those homes now have original flues that were never retrofitted with modern caps. When a DuraFlex liner was installed as an upgrade, it was often connected to a chimney top that still had no real weather protection. Months of dry heat dry out the liner’s surroundings, then winter moisture getting in through the exposed top puts moisture against the liner’s stainless seams. We see liner corrosion at the top six to eight feet far more often here than in newer tracts in Fontana or Rialto to the north, or even compared to DuraFlex service in Riverside where caps were more commonly upgraded. The near-bluff homes along the Santa Ana River’s south edge seem to catch the most mud dauber activity, likely because of the insects’ nesting habits near the riverbed. When we clean a DuraFlex liner in Sunnyslope, we’re not just removing soot. We’re inspecting the top of the liner for pest damage and moisture intrusion in ways that aren’t as critical in cities with newer construction.
DuraFlex Models & Products We Service in Sunnyslope
We service the DuraFlex lines most common in Sunnyslope homes: the DuraFlex SW stainless steel relining kit, DuraFlex Pro chimney liner, DuraFlex Flex liner, and the DuraFlex cap and crown series. When a liner or cap needs replacement, we use OEM DuraFlex parts for critical components because those parts are engineered to fit and function together. For non-structural hardware like fasteners or brackets, we may use a quality aftermarket equivalent when it saves you money and doesn’t affect performance. We stock the most common DuraFlex cap sizes and liner connectors for Sunnyslope’s typical single-story ranch chimneys, so service doesn’t stall waiting on a part that should have been on the truck.

AfterDuraFlex Service Pricing in Sunnyslope
Chimney cleaning for a standard DuraFlex-equipped fireplace in Sunnyslope typically runs $180 to $340. That includes our creosote removal and a visual inspection of the liner and crown. DuraFlex cap replacement usually adds $150 to $350 depending on cap size and roof access. If we find something during the sweep that needs a closer look, we recommend a Level 2 inspection, which runs $250 to $450 and includes camera work down the flue. A full DuraFlex liner replacement can run $2,500 to $6,000, but we don’t recommend that unless we can show you, with photos, why a partial repair won’t hold. Call (833) 805-3229 for a free estimate. Norm will walk you through what he’s seeing, and what can safely wait.

FAQs – DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning in Sunnyslope
In most cases, a DuraFlex liner from the 1980s can be cleaned and put back into service if the stainless is intact. The age matters less than the condition of the seams and the top of the liner, where Sunnyslope’s mud dauber activity and UV exposure do the most damage. We’ll clean it, inspect it with a camera, and show you exactly what we found before we recommend anything. Call (833) 805-3229 to schedule an assessment; the estimate is free.
Birds and squirrels move into open chimneys during the months when fireplaces sit idle, which in Sunnyslope is most of the year. If your chimney lacks a proper cap, it’s an open invitation. The scratching you hear is an animal nesting, and the mess they leave behind becomes creosote-burning fuel once you light a fire. We remove nests, patch any damage, and install a DuraFlex cap to close the opening permanently.
Once a year, even if you only light fires a handful of times each winter. Sunnyslope’s long idle seasons let whatever creosote you did create harden and bond inside the liner. Then the first cold snap causes sudden heat and expansion against that hardened buildup. An annual sweep keeps that cycle from getting dangerous, and it’s cheaper than the liner repair that follows a flue fire. Call (833) 805-3229 and we’ll fit you into the schedule before burning season.
Yes, as long as the crack hasn’t progressed into the liner top or the surrounding masonry. We clean out the damaged crown material, seal the cracks, and sometimes install a new DuraFlex cap as a second layer of protection. Replacing a crown is usually a few hundred dollars. Replacing the whole chimney isn’t on the table unless the structure itself is failing.
A Level 1 inspection is the visual check that happens during a standard sweep. We look at the accessible parts of the flue, the liner top, the damper, and the cap. A Level 2 inspection adds a video scan of the full liner interior and the flue, which we recommend after a chimney fire, before changing fuel types, or if a previous inspection flagged something. In Sunnyslope, where mud dauber blockages and cap damage are common, we often suggest a Level 2 when we’ve pulled a large nest out of the top of the liner. Call (833) 805-3229 to discuss which one fits your situation.
